Only mostly ranty.

Only mostly ranty.

There is a lot going on these days in the world of politics. I have a huge amount of daily frustration and sputtering incredulousness at many of the actions and opinions being put forth. It is probably no surprise, then, that I find my anger focused, laser sharp on...

Toast makes the world go around.

Toast makes the world go around.

I haven't felt much like writing this week. I haven't felt like doing much of anything, unless lying limp upon my sofa counts as some sort of activity. You see, I agreed to do a "liver cleanse" and it has left me a shell of my formerly vibrant (cough) self. A dear...

In fact, I barely got THIS written.

Yesterday a good friend of ours came over to the shop for a little coffee, nosh and advice. (Yes, we are a full service cookie shop.) Turns out that she wanted to set up these monthly seminars and needed our help brainstorming. Now, she didn't need help with topics....

To Dye or Not to Dye….

Decisions, decisions....The other day, I picked up a box of hair dye, something I've done eight or so times a year for the past twenty-five years. I picked it up. I put it down. I looked at myself in the mirror.I'm tired of it, y'all. Not that it's a big deal. It takes...

The Machines are coming… and they want your tax return.

Yesterday we had our tax appointment. Due to some lovely new adoption credit tax laws and the fact that zoo monkeys earn more than we do, Hubby and I are going to get a lot of money back this year. LOTS. A buttload, to be precise. Nope. Don't even ask, I will not tell...

Cancun is for sissies.

You know how some families have mottos? Or maybe an inspirational slogan emblazoned on their family crest? Well, I’ve figured out a strong contender for mine;“The Frauenheim Dankes; taking craptastic vacations since 1995.”There was the year our mini-van broke down and...

Comparing Apples and Bananas…

Oy.This has been a difficult week. I was fully mourning Wisconsin's passage of their anti-union bill, when the news hit about Michigan. My mind still hasn't wrapped itself around the fact that the Michigan State Government decided to allow "Emergency Managers" (which...

Welcome to Spazzcamp.

Wow. Time flies when you are having an politically-induced aneurysm. I haven't posted for a while, just because I have been far too busy shaking my fist at on-line news sites whilst yelling expletives. This requires far more time than you could possibly imagine.   But...

I am an e-mess.

I am an e-mess.

Technology leaves me befuddled. Thursday night, I spent the better part of the evening cussing out my failing printer and then attempted to fix it through the brilliant technique of staring gloomily at it for 35 minutes, pushing random bits with a pencil and...

#13,299,763–Blogs that won’t write themselves….

If you were to say to me, "Lanie, what are your least favorite things in the world?" you should probably understand a couple of things; Number one; you'll need to pull up a chair. That is a long list and I update it frequently.Number two; at least half the list will...

  • Pam on I’m fine.We will not be looking back on these years with a happy chuckle and a thought of how whimsical the Universe can be, but I imagine the silver linings will continue to provide useful, elegant lessons in how to love this life we are living. You are a blessing and joy in my life and I am much better for knowing you. And this entry is freakin' hilarious!
  • Geanette on I’m fine. You amaze me. That’s all there is too it. The fact that you are willing and able to even LOOK for a silver lining is breathtaking. And then you make me laugh outloud. “And the award for best use of the word fish stick in a simile goes toooooo......!” Oh Melanie.....keep filling our hearts with your observations and keep us laughing. We need inspiration like you. And now ... bonus ... I can say I’ve “read” Rilke! Big love, G
  • Pam on There are RULES, dangnabbit!Wow! Who is the noble cobbler? Mine took six weeks to repair the strap on my bag that I carry every day. I am aware that your cobbler didn't say that they would be ready in two days, he just agreed that she could pick them up. I am delighting myself with the fantasy of her coming in to get her eight unrepaired boots and stamping her tiny foot while said cobbler merely swings his awl to point to the wall -- Ready in Two Weeks.
  • Melanie Danke on Wakey, wakey.Gosh, you are sweet. Thank you for that.
  • Geanette on Wakey, wakey.Didn't think I could POSSIBLY love you any more, but after reading this one. I do. I do indeed. You make me laugh when there's nothing to laugh about. You make me see the world with new eyes. No small feat. God, I love you!
