Somebody better clean up this mess!

Somebody better clean up this mess!

Oh, my lord but I'm exhausted. "But, why, Lanie?" you are saying, "You just had a full two days off."Okay, I'm going to ignore that, though I am obligated to snarkily remind you that mothers NEVER have a day off. (I can't believe you'd even suggest it!) Anyway, as I...

A cure for life’s ills.

The other day, I was at the self check-out at the library, when I got a good look at my chosen materials; one mystery where the hero was a cookie baker, one where the hero was a cupcake baker, Julie and Julia (the movie), two vegan cookbooks (I'm not, but what the...

So, I didn't tell you about our New Year's eve. We spent it with some dear friends in St. Paul. During the course of the evening we began talking about hubby's conviction that we are running out of oil, at which point people began adding their own apocalyptic...

Everything I need to know I learned from television.

ooooooo.... my Perfect New Year has hit a snag. Seems that a certain television station has stopped airing reruns of Roseanne. This is not acceptable.I've only (relatively) recently begun watching these and have been struck with a whole new appreciation for the genius...

In the New Year, I am Perfect.

Okay, Christmas is great. My birthday? Totally fun. Mother's day? Now you're talking! But as for me, my absolutely favorite holiday is New Year's, hands down. Not the staying up, or the parties... we hardly ever do that, anyway. In fact, while I was growing up our...

Merry Christmas… better enjoy it now.

Hubby is trying to kill my holiday buzz. Here's the thing; he's a history buff, which is normally quite useful to me. It's a whole lotta' information that I find mildly annoying and huuuuugely sleep-inducing, but that, thankfully, I no longer need to remember--I just...

So… Cold….

So… Cold….

I miss looking cute in the winter.I used to dress adorably no matter what the weather. Time was I didn't let the specter of frostbite deter me one bit. Off I'd go, tromping through the snow to wait for the bus in a mini-skirt, doc martins, vintage top and a leather...

a belated reverb

Yes, I know, I know... waaaay behind. Sadly, this week I've had little time or internet access... something about all that snow. Cheap, city-wide internet is awesome in theory, but not exactly problem-free. Nevertheless!-- I've been thinking about this post all week....

December 10 – Wisdom. What was the wisest decision you made this year, and how did it play out? This is a tough one... I don't feel that I'm particularly wise. I believe that I've made a lot of smart decisions, but that's not really the same thing, is it? A smart...

  • Pam on I’m fine.We will not be looking back on these years with a happy chuckle and a thought of how whimsical the Universe can be, but I imagine the silver linings will continue to provide useful, elegant lessons in how to love this life we are living. You are a blessing and joy in my life and I am much better for knowing you. And this entry is freakin' hilarious!
  • Geanette on I’m fine. You amaze me. That’s all there is too it. The fact that you are willing and able to even LOOK for a silver lining is breathtaking. And then you make me laugh outloud. “And the award for best use of the word fish stick in a simile goes toooooo......!” Oh Melanie.....keep filling our hearts with your observations and keep us laughing. We need inspiration like you. And now ... bonus ... I can say I’ve “read” Rilke! Big love, G
  • Pam on There are RULES, dangnabbit!Wow! Who is the noble cobbler? Mine took six weeks to repair the strap on my bag that I carry every day. I am aware that your cobbler didn't say that they would be ready in two days, he just agreed that she could pick them up. I am delighting myself with the fantasy of her coming in to get her eight unrepaired boots and stamping her tiny foot while said cobbler merely swings his awl to point to the wall -- Ready in Two Weeks.
  • Melanie Danke on Wakey, wakey.Gosh, you are sweet. Thank you for that.
  • Geanette on Wakey, wakey.Didn't think I could POSSIBLY love you any more, but after reading this one. I do. I do indeed. You make me laugh when there's nothing to laugh about. You make me see the world with new eyes. No small feat. God, I love you!
