On Second Thought, I Don’t Wanna’ Go.

-Reverb Broads prompt for today, December 5th-"What is the one thing you finally did this year that you always wanted or said you were going to do, but in your heart of hearts never thought you would actually do?"I feel like I've summed this one up fairly recently-...

Lord almighty, It's done! National Novel Writing month is over for another year and I, for one, would just like to say-- don't let the door hit you in the butt, NaNoWriMo!Don't misunderstand, I am beyond happy that I did it. For years I've chastised myself saying,...

NaNoWriMo update. Words, please!

One of the most touching things about my husband is his unfailing enjoyment of my writing and his crazy belief that I have an inexhaustible supply of good ideas. This isn't even remotely the case. What I have is five children whose actions are sometimes so arrestingly...

I Still Got It.

I Still Got It.

I'm so excited, in a completely dorky way. Yesterday I managed to pass down a bit of wisdom to my son. To convey to him a skill that I have worked on for years, honed through exhaustive practice and perfected through the bitter tears of experience.Yesterday, I taught...

This is all my sister’s fault.

This is all my sister’s fault.

Did you notice the date, yesterday? 11/1/11. Ooooo, I think that's magic. I meant to make a wish at 11:11 and also at 1:11, but dang it, I forgot both times. REALLY! I have the short-term memory of a toaster. That's right, none at all. All I had to do was pause for...

If he ever sees these photos, I am in so much trouble.

It must be getting closer to the holiday season; I can tell, because I'm getting all weepy. Partly, that's just inevitable... I am highly susceptable to the change of seasons. I start getting all excited and semi-secretly (okay, not at all secretly) planning my...

Seriously. Give me all your stuff.

Oooooo, I'm so excited! I just bought my sister's Christmas present (don't judge) and it is darling! It is perfect, perfect, perfect......at least, I think it is. I have a hard time feeling 100% confident about the presents I buy for her as I'm never totally sure who...

Guess who’s guest-blogging? (And is that even a word?)

Today we're breaking the mold, a little bit. This isn't a foodie blog, but as you know, I'm baker both by trade and by, well, a disportionate love of butter and sweets. While perusing the interwebs for recipes I came across this wonderful site: Frosting for a Cause....

To recap; Slow? Yes. Crazy? Definitely.

Well. It's over. Done. Six months of training, of anticipation, and fervent, passionate hope were put to the test yesterday at the Medtronic TC Marathon. By 1:30 p.m. I was laid out on the grass, making feeble, insincere attempts to stretch my aching legs and idly...

  • Pam on I’m fine.We will not be looking back on these years with a happy chuckle and a thought of how whimsical the Universe can be, but I imagine the silver linings will continue to provide useful, elegant lessons in how to love this life we are living. You are a blessing and joy in my life and I am much better for knowing you. And this entry is freakin' hilarious!
  • Geanette on I’m fine. You amaze me. That’s all there is too it. The fact that you are willing and able to even LOOK for a silver lining is breathtaking. And then you make me laugh outloud. “And the award for best use of the word fish stick in a simile goes toooooo......!” Oh Melanie.....keep filling our hearts with your observations and keep us laughing. We need inspiration like you. And now ... bonus ... I can say I’ve “read” Rilke! Big love, G
  • Pam on There are RULES, dangnabbit!Wow! Who is the noble cobbler? Mine took six weeks to repair the strap on my bag that I carry every day. I am aware that your cobbler didn't say that they would be ready in two days, he just agreed that she could pick them up. I am delighting myself with the fantasy of her coming in to get her eight unrepaired boots and stamping her tiny foot while said cobbler merely swings his awl to point to the wall -- Ready in Two Weeks.
  • Melanie Danke on Wakey, wakey.Gosh, you are sweet. Thank you for that.
  • Geanette on Wakey, wakey.Didn't think I could POSSIBLY love you any more, but after reading this one. I do. I do indeed. You make me laugh when there's nothing to laugh about. You make me see the world with new eyes. No small feat. God, I love you!
