The Problem with Hubby.

The Problem with Hubby.

My husband has a very high opinion of me. No matter how I'm feeling, he tells me that I am the funniest, cutest, most talented and driven person he knows. I can't tell you how much that is starting to piss me off. It's a lot of pressure, people. He's all, "Tell me...

What is Scaring Me This Halloween.

What is Scaring Me This Halloween.

It's Halloween and it occurs to me how very often frightening things come in small packages, like Chucky or those kids from Children of the Corn and now, this: Such a small thing, to contain such horrors. I know that I seemed indecisive about making this purchase all...

What to do… What to do…?

What to do… What to do…?

I think I am suffering from a moderate case of post-marathon blahs.  The week after the marathon, I ran three days and made it to the gym two more. Last week...? Not so much. Without a goal, or looming deadline, I just Don't. See. The. Point. Workouts are for...

Happily Ever After… thus far, anyways.

People, I am having just one hell of a Monday. I'm out of clean underwear, I brought two towels to the gym, but no iPod, I changed purses, which means I am currently without phone or makeup. Every turn I made on the way to work led me to road construction or placed me...

Marathon wrap up.

Marathon wrap up.

Cue the theme song from Chariots of Fire and break out the ice packs because I finally got a sub-five hour marathon finish. Hal-le-freaking-luia. My finishing time was a joy-inducing 4:53:17, shaving twenty-seven minutes off last year and a full hour and six minutes...

Bring it!

Bring it!

The most beautiful word in the English language isn't "melodious" or "lemon" or "onomatopoeia"--though they are strong contenders.  I maintain that the sweetest word is "taper" as in, "Dear, sweet, merciful Jesus; thank you for getting me through my last long run...

Happy Birthday post.

You know, I spend a lot of time reminding folks to do stuff. "Remember to shut the front door!" "Remember to do your spelling homework!" "Remember to practice piano, flush the toilet, finish your chores, feed the darn cat..." etc.... etc.....etc..... Less often,...

Ciao to Roma.

Ciao to Roma.

8/20/12  And so we come to the last entry... No lie, the view from outside our apartment... .... of this old thing. Rome.  I didn't realize myself how much I would love it. I actually teared up a little bit, trying to explain to Hubby the appeal.  Rome...

Good bye to Addis, Onward to Rome!

Good bye to Addis, Onward to Rome!

8/12/12 On Friday, we headed out on our first tour; first stop, the semi-rock hewn church Adadi Marim. Beautiful.  Amazing to think that people had the passion and dedication to chisel a place of worship out of solid rock....this from someone who has a hard time...

Addis Journal, part two.

6/9/12 We are living large. We've moved to a new guesthouse and this place is ridiculous! GT Guesthouse is a freaking marble palace. The owners are sweet as can be and the comfort of the apartment is much appreciated but I'm a little uncomfortable assuming such a...

  • Pam on I’m fine.We will not be looking back on these years with a happy chuckle and a thought of how whimsical the Universe can be, but I imagine the silver linings will continue to provide useful, elegant lessons in how to love this life we are living. You are a blessing and joy in my life and I am much better for knowing you. And this entry is freakin' hilarious!
  • Geanette on I’m fine. You amaze me. That’s all there is too it. The fact that you are willing and able to even LOOK for a silver lining is breathtaking. And then you make me laugh outloud. “And the award for best use of the word fish stick in a simile goes toooooo......!” Oh Melanie.....keep filling our hearts with your observations and keep us laughing. We need inspiration like you. And now ... bonus ... I can say I’ve “read” Rilke! Big love, G
  • Pam on There are RULES, dangnabbit!Wow! Who is the noble cobbler? Mine took six weeks to repair the strap on my bag that I carry every day. I am aware that your cobbler didn't say that they would be ready in two days, he just agreed that she could pick them up. I am delighting myself with the fantasy of her coming in to get her eight unrepaired boots and stamping her tiny foot while said cobbler merely swings his awl to point to the wall -- Ready in Two Weeks.
  • Melanie Danke on Wakey, wakey.Gosh, you are sweet. Thank you for that.
  • Geanette on Wakey, wakey.Didn't think I could POSSIBLY love you any more, but after reading this one. I do. I do indeed. You make me laugh when there's nothing to laugh about. You make me see the world with new eyes. No small feat. God, I love you!
